Short Introduction of Kaka
Hon. Shri Kantisen Shroff – ‘Kaka’ was a visionary, philosopher, thinker, social activist, agriculturalist, industrialist, environmentalist and philanthropist – thus a multidimensional human being who was dedicated to the wellbeing of the society. He was a person with result oriented and growth-oriented approach who always used to ensure that works taken on hand must meet implementation. All his works used to have a unique flavour owing to his spiritual and nationalistic ideology. He always sought to get the right people for the right job together and bring about the best results which indeed proved him to be a ‘Mahajan’ in true sense of words. He also did numerous activities for the environment as an effort to repay the debt of the mother earth. He was always active for the awareness and safety of the environment. He was an inspiring source in the campaigns like –tree plantation & conservation. Water harvesting and water management were also on his high-priority list. He made a huge contribution by working significantly in this direction and giving substantial results to Kutch. He firmly believed in progress of the rural areas and therefore did many works in the direction of Animal husbandry and helped livestock rearers by spreading awareness in number of villages. He literally crusaded for the development of the agriculture and considered the agriculture no less than an industry and that’s the reason why organizations engaged in agriculture research coined a title ‘Krishi-Rishi’ (Sage of the Agriculture) for him.
Many of his projects were focused on nature and the wise use of the natural resources and through this approach he completed various projects which inspired others to work alike. Human welfare was one agenda he was always concerned about and this quality made him an exponent of education as well as health of the people. Conservation and care for the culture was another paradigm he was truly concerned about and he justified it by working relentlessly for the development of the crafts and the craftspeople. He also contributed in the fields of education as well as literature.
‘We will rather be givers than borrowers’ – keeping this pivotal thought he sent out a strong message for the care and welfare of the people, animals, water, trees and the land. He used to believe that we would be able to build a healthy society and a healthy nation if we follow this thinking. He gave people a thought of ‘Becoming self-reliant by doing a considerate and discreet usage of the local resources’. He ensured it too by employing many people by putting this thought in practise.
Kaka’s persona was filled with simplicity, self-confidence, skill of discerning complex matters, integrity towards work, meticulousness, sense of discipline, child-like fascination at the octogenarian age and attitude of always learning new things. ‘Best or nothing’ was the motto of his life. Accumulation of so many qualities in one person made his personality larger than life and as good as a saint!
પૂજ્યશ્રી કાન્તિસેન શ્રોફ, ‘કાકા’ સ્વપ્નદ્રષ્ટા, ચિંતક, વિચારક, કલાનિષ્ઠ, સમાજસેવક, કૃષિ વૈજ્ઞાનિક, ઉદ્યોગપતિ, પર્યાવરણવાદી અને દાતા એમ એક બહુ આયમી પ્રતિભા ધરાવતા સમાજલક્ષી મૂલ્યનિષ્ઠ માનવ હતા. તેઓ સતત વિવિધ વિકાસલક્ષી અને પરિણામલક્ષી કાર્યો માટે તત્પર રહેતા તેમજ તેને પૂર્ણ નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક અમલીકરણની દિશા તરફ ગતિમાન કરતા. આધ્યાત્મિક વૃત્તિ અને રાષ્ટ્રવાદી પ્રવૃત્તિ થકી તેમના તમામ કાર્યોમાં એક અનેરો નિખાર આવતો. મહાજન બની સમાજને સાચા અર્થમાં ઉપયોગી થઇ, બધાને સાથે રાખી શ્રેષ્ઠતમ કાર્યો કરવાં એ તેમનો આદર્શ હતો. પર્યાવરણ ક્ષેત્રે અનેકવિધ કાર્યો થકી તેમણે પ્રકૃતિનું ઋણ અદા કર્યું હતું. પર્યાવરણની સુરક્ષા અને જાગૃતિ માટે એ સતત પ્રયત્નશીલ રહેતા. વૃક્ષારોપણ અને વૃક્ષઉછેરના તેઓ પ્રેરણાસ્ત્રોત હતા. જળસંચય અને જળવ્યવસ્થાપન તેમના માટે એક મહત્વપૂર્ણ ક્ષેત્ર હતું. વોટર હાર્વેસ્ટિંગ અને વોટર મેનેજમેન્ટના જરૂરી પાયાનાં કામો થકી તેમણે કચ્છને એક નવી દિશા આપી હતી. ગ્રામવિકાસ અને ગ્રામોત્થાનની અનેકવિધ પ્રવૃતિઓમાં સક્રિયતાથી ઓતપ્રોત થઈને કાર્ય કરનારા કાકા પશુપાલન અને પશુ સંવર્ધન માટે પણ સતત ચિંતિત રહ્યા અને ગામડે ગામડે તે માટેના પ્રયાસો પણ આદર્યા. કૃષિને ઉદ્યોગનો દરજ્જો આપી ખેતીનો વિકાસ થાય તે માટે અનેક પ્રોજેકટો દ્વારા તેમણે કચ્છમાં રીતસર કૃષિ ક્ષેત્રે ચળવળ ચલાવી અને એટેલે જ તેમણે ઘણી સંસ્થાઓએ ‘કૃષિઋષિ’નું બિરૂદ પણ આપ્યું.
કુદરતી સંસાધનોના મહતમ અને વિવેકપૂર્વકના ઉપયોગ દ્વારા તેમણે ઘણા કાર્યોને સિદ્ધ કરી બતાવ્યા હતા અને પ્રેરણા આપી હતી. જન આરોગ્ય દ્વારા સંપૂર્ણ સ્વાસ્થ્ય અને મૂલ્યનિષ્ઠ લોક-શિક્ષણના તેઓ હિમાયતી હતા. ભાતીગળ સંસ્કૃતિની ગરિમા જળવાય અને પરંપરાગત હસ્તકળાઓ અને કારીગરોનો વિકાસ થાય તે માટે તેઓ સદા સક્રિય રહેતા. શિક્ષણ અને સાહિત્ય ક્ષેત્રે તેમનું અનેરું પ્રદાન હતું.
‘લેનાર કરતાં આપનાર બનવું પડશે’ – એ વિચારને કેન્દ્રમાં રાખી જન, જાનવર, જળ, ઝાડ, અને જમીનને સ્વસ્થ રાખીશું તો સંપૂર્ણ સ્વસ્થ સમાજનું ઘડતર કરી શકીશું અને તેના થકી જ એક મજબૂત રાષ્ટ્રનું નિર્માણ થશે તેવા વિચાર સાથે તેઓ ચાલતા. ‘સ્થાનિક સ્ત્રોતોના સામૂહિક અને સમજપૂર્વકના સદુપયોગ દ્વારા સ્વાવલંબન’ એ સૂત્ર સાથે વ્યક્તિગત આવડતોનો જ ઉપયોગ કરી, તેવા લોકોને પ્રોત્સાહિત કરી અને પરિણામલક્ષી બનાવ્યા હતા.
તેમનું સાદગીસભર વ્યક્તિત્વ, આત્મવિશ્વાસ, આગવી સૂઝ, સંશોધનાત્મક ચિત્ત, કાર્યનિષ્ઠા, ચીવટ, શિસ્તપાલન, કુતૂહલવૃત્તિ અને સદા શીખતા રહેવાની ધગશ તથા જે કર્યા કરવું તે શ્રેષ્ઠ રીતે જ કરવું તેવી ભાવના વગેરે ગુણો તેમનાં વ્યક્તિત્વને વિરાટ અને સંતત્વના ગુણથી સભર બનાવ્યું હતું.
